I’m wondering what CRC strives to be.
Is it a formal club where events are planned and members attend just those events?
Is it a group of enthusiasts that get together at each others homes to check out tanks and discuss reefing?
Is it a group that trades frags, red bugs, and flatworms back and forth?
A combo of all 3?
I’m asking because reefin’ in NC seems like the Bermuda Triangle with no Bermuda nor triangle.
I mean, I haven’t met a single reefer or seen the blue glow in a window. Now, I’ve been super busy and been out of it for 8 years, but one would think you’d run into it here or there.
I was fortunate to start reef keeping where I did. The area had a HUGE number of reef keepers and a very active club that did all 3 above in a city the size of Greensboro.
Anyway, I‘m interested to hear where this club is going.
Hi Kent,
My understanding is that .. the hope and goal is for it to grow into a regional club that eventually has physical meetings at various locations across NC.
Right now though, since it's a new club that is just getting its initial footing ... in the tail end of the pandemic, the club meets every third Thurdsay of the month on Zoom.
Those monthly Zoom meetings have had topics and guest speakers that range from virtual tours of members' tanks ... to speaker such as Greg Carroll and Keith Berkelhamer (aka Reefbum) ... to just relaxing and shooting-the-bull about our tanks without any meeting agenda.
There was also an all-day 'Fragtastic' LFS tours in Charlotte this past summer.
So, it is a mix of 1,2 and 3 ... but most of it still occurs virtually.
